Aging - a Divine Perspective
| . |
We know that God heals all diseases and sickness. But what about the natural process of aging and
weakening of the body due to old age? Today even medical science is beginning to explore the secrets
of aging in the hope of reversing it. Older saints, take courage and know the power of God. Who told
you that one should retire and become a pensioner at 55 or 60? Was it not the government or employers
who set the pattern? Often it is religious tradition and the unnatural fear of being heretical robs us of our
glorious inheritance from the glorious gospel. Let us talk about the resurrection power of our Lord who
now lives and reigns over His Church with the power of an endless life! Let’s examine the words of the
Ancient of Days for some Divine insights!
But these things are not going to drop down freely into your life for how much of our thinking and living
has been shaped by a godless world. It will take a great deal of effort to see the manifestation of what
is provided. It will require meditation and a closer daily walk with the Saviour. It will be according to
your spiritual desire, discipline, delights and diligent seeking after the things pertaining to eternal life.
“Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction;
who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things;
so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.”
When the eagle gets old and bald, it goes up to a high mountain and remains there for some time and
goes through the process of moulting. The old feathers fall of, the old beak, now brittle falls away, the
filmy growth over the eyes fall away. Slowly it begins to grow new feathers and beak and with clear
eyes soars to the high heavens!
God not only forgives all our sins and heals all diseases but also renews our youth like the eagles.
Youth can be renewed only to those who are no longer young. So however weak and aged we may
be, remember He renews our youth.
Job 33 : 23 – 25
“If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his
uprightness: Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I
have found a ransom. His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth.”
Praise God ! A ransom has been found. Jesus himself became our ransom at Calvary and
because of that our flesh can become fresher than a child’s and we may return to the days of our
youth. This is God’s provision, through Calvary, to reverse the process of aging in those who believe.
Remember Naaman a captain in the Syrian army who had leprosy? Dipping
in the river Jordan healed him. His leprosy left immediately and his
skin became as a child's skin! (2 Kings 5:14)
Oh! The amazing power of God even for a man who was not under the Covenant as Israel was!
If there is anyone reading this, suffering from any kind of skin disease, let us offer you a tried and
proven remedy : Job 33 : 23 – 25 spoken out aloud! Believe it and shout out the praise of the Redeemer!
Rom. 2:7
“To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life.”
God expects us to seek immortality and to such He gives eternal life. Think of the Old Testament
characters who had lived for over 900 years! But as sin increased on the earth, the life span began to drop.
But as the sin destroyer has come, let us glorify redemption by doing our best to reverse the process
of aging with the power of the Word and the Holy Spirit. Let thoughts of eternity and long life be in your
imagination and in your dreams!
II Tim. 1 : 10
“But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death,
and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel”
The Saviour whom we accepted, abolished death for us and the gospel we believed proclaims life
and immortality to us. Aging and frailty need not have place in us who believe in this Jesus and
His good news. Let us be transformed by renewing our minds with the Word of God. Don’t let the
world condition you!
Rom. 8:11
“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ
from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you”.
The Holy Spirit who lives in us is the power that raised up Jesus from the dead. When we were
filled with the Holy Spirit, He came inside us to dwell there forever. This same Spirit quickens
(or gives life to) us forever. Weakness due to old age and death are no longer natural, rather,
they are alien to us. The last enemy that will be put down under our feet is death! (1 Cor 15:26).
Psalm 32:3
“When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.”
Praise God in all circumstances. Keeping silence in the face of evil affects us physically, so let’s use
our mouths to thank and praise God continually (1 Thes 5: 16-18).
We have more than two or three witnessing verses to establish this beautiful truth of long life !
