Difference between Healing & Health
| . |
Healing means deliverance from sickness. Health means well being of the body, mind and spirit. To be in
good health, we need to rest and recoup. Jesus himself, rested when he was weary from travel.
John 4:6 says, “Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the
well: and it was about the sixth hour.“
Mark 4:38 says, “And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow……”
God has instituted physical rest. In fact, medical science will tell you that the heart slows down once in
seven days. Hebrews 4:1 talks about the rest that Jesus provides (See also Matthew 11:28) and how we
ought to be careful not to lose that rest.
God wants us to have physical rest, but the continuous state of rest and tranquility, which He provides, is
also a rest in our labors and not a rest from our labors or a complete cessation of work.
Health depends on the state of the soul. Many Christians do not require healing but rather health.
3 John 1:2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even
as thy soul prospereth.”
Proverbs 14:30 says, “A sound heart is the life of the flesh….”
When Jesus is not Lord of a Christian’s life and when the kingdom of God is not functioning in his life, then
there can be a loss of health which ultimately can lead to sickness and diseases which would then require
healing and the ability to retain the healing. The kingdom of God is described for us in Romans 14:17 is
“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”
When righteousness in Christ is attacked, when there is no peace in the soul and when there is no joy in
the Holy Ghost, then our soul is not prosperous. It is amazing how so many Christians are going from
meeting to meeting, from doctor to doctor, to find a cure for their ailments when God’s Word can provide
the answer. Such will only receive a symptomatic treatment from the doctor or a mercy “touch” from
God ! When we identify the cause and treat it, then healing is permanent and good health assured.
A great number of Christians have neglected and rejected the supernatural working of the Holy Ghost in
the triune composition of man – in his spirit, soul and body.
Nehemiah 8:10 teaches us that the joy of the Lord is our strength. But Christians have picked up
substitutes from the world – from capsules by compounding quacks to machinery in gyms.
Joel 1:12 warns us of the consequences of withered joy. But many Christians are trying to derive joy
from outside the kingdom of God! Repent and rejoice in the Lord and go to the closet or the place where
you can rejoice again and again in Him who is our life.
Now that you know what health is, it is easy to differentiate it from healing. In areas rampant with deadly
diseases (even hospitals) one has to be cautious and on guard. Vicious attacks by germs and viruses and
spirit beings require immediate healing. Continuous bad health can cause damages that would require healing.
Thus healing can be
- Preventive
- Curative
- Restorative
The top two killers in developed and developing countries are stress induced heart and mental disorders which
in turn cause other complications. God surely has an answer for His people in His Word! Do not despise the
Word of God. Get into it. Stay in it. Memorize some of it. (It is better to memorize Scripture than the doctors
prescriptions!)
Meditate on it. Speak it out loud – and you will see the power and effect of His precious Word.
