Medical Science and Divine Healing

Does God heal through supernatural means only? Is it proper for a believer to use medicines? Does medical
science have any place in the divine order of healing? These are questions that come up whenever the subject
of divine healing is taught.
Everything created thing in this world, both the natural and the supernatural was created by God and belongs to God. God is the source of all knowledge – true medical knowledge included. The natural means of healing – i.e. rest, nourishment and the use of approved medicines, also belongs to God. Therefore as believers, we can use every God given resource, including medical aid to get well for the glory of God. However, in this present age that we are living in, it would be wise to be careful about the kind of medical treatment we resort to and the hospitals we go to. Is it not true that often a person goes to hospital with a minor ailment and comes out with a deadly one? Know that some segments of the medical industry is a great money making machinery in many places and is one of the topmost industries in the world. Know also that in every hospital people come with various spirits of sickness and diseases. These spirits are usually waiting to attach itself to another person. The thief comes to steal, to kill and to destroy and he will not pass an opportunity to do so. Remember that most hospitals have spirits of sickness and death. Put up a spiritual guard before you go to any such place. Better still, find your self a Spirit anointed doctor and go by his counsel. God’s best is to be healed by His Word, but not all are perfected in the area of manifesting healing. If it were not for medical science, many Christians would be dead by now. Both God and true medical science are interested in the well being of the human body. If you are missing out on being healed without medical attention, then get well with every good method that God places before you. Then find out where you missed it and try to do better the next time. Keep fighting on and pressing on and you will find that the things that you once went to the doctor for treatment now simply fly out in the face of your ever-increasing faith. But remember that satan has perverted many of the wonderful things that God created. Romans 8:22 says, “The whole of creation travails and groans in pain”. Medical science has been used by satan to replace the word of God in the lives of many Christians. Is it not true? Have not medical reports taken the place of the report of God? God does not bless anything that takes the place of Him or His Word in our lives. Medical science is not perfect, but the Word of God is perfect and health to all the flesh. (Proverbs 4:20,21) Therefore keep medical science in it's proper place. Have faith in God the Healer. Use medicines, bud do not allow it to take the place of God or His Word. Remember King Asa in the Old Testament, and how he put his trust in the physicians to heal his diseased foot and left his trust in God. 2 Chronicles 16:12 “ And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians.” God knows our heart perfectly and He knows exactly where our trust is! The reason why some Christian groups do not take medicine : The words, ‘pharmacology’, ‘pharmaceuticals’ and related words are derived from the Greek word “Pharmacopoeia” which is also the source of the words ‘sorcery’ and ‘sorcerer’. Revelations 21:8 says that sorcerers will be cast into the lake of fire and will not enter into the kingdom of God. The Greek word for the practicing of magical arts is ‘mageio” from which the modern words ‘magic’ and ‘magician’ are derived. It is pertinent to note that in many countries, including ours, the practitioners of witchcraft or magicians were also the medicine men, or dispensers of native medicine. So there has always been a fine line where demonology and the occult slip into medical knowledge. It is for this reason that some Christian groups shun the use of medicines totally. A few years ago, in a local pastor’s fellowship, some of the pastors had identified a nearby pharmaceutical unit that was placing the products it manufactured in an occult ritual before releasing it into the market. Satan has 6000 years of experience in dealing with mankind and he needs only a little gap to enter into our lives. Here I must interject a personal experience that God permitted me to have. In the locality that I used to live in years ago, there was a famous and very successful ‘Christian’ pediatrician. There was always a long queue in his office. He would even successfully treat cases outside his specialized field. Knowing that we were in the ministry of divine healing, he came to our home wanting some resources from our library. In the course of our conversation, he asked me what I meditated on. I replied that I meditated on the Word of God. He said that meditating on God’s word was only one form of meditation and said that other words also could be used to meditate on the supernatural. He told me how on the night before an operation, he meditates, he prays, and God shows him exactly what to do. That he said was the reason for his success. He then mentioned a word, which I cannot repeat, that could be used for meditation. This is a word used by idolaters. He then went on to say that he and his friends from his church were doing a project to prove this. He then asked me to show him my right hand and to my utter amazement, he began to read my hand. God opened my eyes that day to show how demonology had crept into the church and even among so called Christian doctors. Beware child of God, as you go for medical treatment that doctors, drugs and devils are tied together by a short rope. The doctor is not the healer. Medication is not the ultimate answer for a Christian. Learn to discern by the Spirit of God and listen to the voice of the Loving Shepherd. Of late the Lord has been prompting me that when His people reject Him as the Great Physician (as Jehovah Rapha) they are rejecting Him. We cannot have Him in bits and pieces. He in His completeness wants to dwell in our lives. The Lord warned that many of His people by rejecting the Healing aspect of His Divine Nature are actually rejecting Him – either knowingly or unknowingly. If your trust has been in medical science (and God who searches the hearts, knows all things) then repent and realize that Jehovah Rapha as revealed in Jesus Christ, is our Great Physician. Realize that doctors and medicines are only instruments in the hands of the Almighty God. Attitudes and conditions that cause sickness from a medical viewpoint : A genuine Christian doctor realizes the importance of the soul which medical science has been denying. But the time has come that secular doctors are realizing that if they have to successfully treat a patient, they have to study and treat the psychosomatic causes.
